In this article, I'm going to include everything you need to know about buying your first horse.
Firstly, you need to know some basics.
Zed can get a little overwhelming at first so I'm going to try my best to keep this as simple as possible.
Zed Run intend to release 38,000 Genesis Horses.
What is a Genesis horse?
A genesis horse, is a horse which has been minted by Zed.
It's the first of it's bloodline.
Genesis horses range from Z1-Z10.
They're released on the Zed Run official marketplace during drops. Once they're all gone, they won't be minting any fresh Genesis Horses.
So grab them whilst you can.
Next up you need to know about Bloodlines.
What is a Blooodline?
As you can see in the image above, there's 4 bloodlines.
- Nakamoto (Z1-2)
- Szabo (Z3-4)
- Finney (Z5-7)
- Buterin (Z8-10)
As you can see, Nakamotos are the rarest of all bloodlines. The holy grail.
They have the purest Genotype, meaning they're usually the best race horses & the finest breeders in the game.
But one question I get asked all the time is, does that mean a Z10 can't ever beat a Z1?
The answer is simple: Just like real life; any horse can beat any horse.
However, statistically a Z1 will beat a Z10 more often than not.
Having said that, there's some fantastic Z10s in the game that continue to compete at the highest level equal to Z1s.
They're just rare and extremely hard to find.

The image above shows the rarity of each Genotype and how many are currently left in circulation at this current time. As you can see, they're selling out fast so now is the perfect time to be getting involved with the game.
Finally, I'd just like to point out something a lot of beginners might not be aware of and I'd hate for any of you to be tricked into spending more than you need too for a horse.
I said I'll keep this simple, but I would just like to mention that just because a horse is within the Z1-10 range does NOT mean that it's Genesis.
You see in Zed, you can breed horses.
If you bred two Z1 Genesis horses, you'd produce a Z2 Legendary.
If you bred a Z3 Genesis horse with a Z4 Genesis Horse, you'd produce a Z7 Legendary.
The chart below explains it a little more.
You don't need to fully understand this yet, just be aware that if you're looking to buy your first Genesis horse that it is infact - Genesis.
Finally, now you understand the mechanics of the game and what to look for - Let me introduce Horse Colours.
Horse colour or coat, adds another interesting dynamic to your horse.
There's 7 origins of colour, with 3 differing types of rarity.
- Super Rare
Whilst these don't alter the performance of your horse, they do increase it's rarity.
This factors into the value of a horse so should always be checked before you buy or sell any of your horses.
If you've got your head around that, then it looks like you're ready to buy your first horse.
To do that, you'll need to head over to https://matic.opensea.io/
The website is a little clunky however as it's in Beta.
The best place to search for a horse within your budget, is Zed Nucleus.
When looking for a horse, there's a few additional tips and tricks you'll need to consider.
Each horse is unique and some are better than others.
We can't see how GOOD or BAD, each horse is. But we do have access to some indicators that let us know.
The most important indicator is ODDS.
Every time a horse enters a race Zed generates it's odds.
This shows it's probability of winning the race.
If your horse has odds of 6.5, that means that it's predicting your horse to win 1 race in every 5.5 races. In theory at least.
Anything below 10 is considered great.
When you start getting odds over 20, it's a sign your horse is on the slower side.
If you analyse the odds over a number of races, it creates a clear picture to whether or not your horse is good, average or a donkey.
What impact this has on breeding, we can't say with any certainty at the time of writing this article as breeding is currently offline.
But you'd expect the best racers, to produce the finest offspring.
Therefore when purchasing your first horse, always check the odds to make sure you're buying a star.
To check the odds - Visit the Zed Run Discord Channel
Then in the search bar - Top Right - enter the name of the horse you're interested in and you'll find all it's racing history and odds.
It should look something like this.
As you can see, Aurora Star wasn't the favourite for the race, yet still won.
Odds are an important part of the puzzle, but definitely not everything.
To get a good feel for a horse, you need more than 30 races minimum before you can say whether you have a champion winning horse, or a donkey.
The more data you have, the more you know about your horse, allowing you the opportunity to place it in the best situation to win.
That's what separates Zed Run from a roulette table.
If you're smart and analyse the data, you can change the odds in your favour.
Now you should be ready to purchase your first horse and get on the track.
I hope you found all this helpful.
